7 Podcasts About Veterans and PTSD Worth Listening To

Team Never Quit

The former Navy SEAL who wrote the book that inspired the movie “Lone Survivor” is behind this uplifting podcast, which aims to share humorous and heartfelt interviews that delve into the “never quit” stories of remarkable men and women. Many if not most of the guests are post-combat Veterans who share the truth behind their challenges as well as how they found purpose in “life after service.”

The Veterans Voice

Produced by the Mount Carmel Veterans Service Center, The Veterans Voice podcast shares inspirational stories about post-combat Veteran recovery, innovative treatments for PTSD and TBI, programs that support Veterans, and a variety of behavioral health topics.

Welcome Home

Billed as “a podcast for Veterans, About Veterans, By Veterans,” “Welcome Home” is hosted by Larry Zilliox, who explores a wide range of programs aimed at helping Veterans in unique and creative ways, as well as issues impacting Veterans, research and more. Because the podcast is sponsored by Willing Warriors and the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run, many of its episodes highlight Willing Warriors programs, but the stories and topics are relevant to any Veteran or supporter of Veteran health.

Borne the Battle

You might be surprised to learn that the VA has a podcast network of several shows aimed at Veteran health produced by the Department of Veterans Affairs. One of these shows, Borne the Battle, highlights resources and benefits available to Veterans, primarily through the VA. The VA podcast network also includes shows about nutrition, Veteran news, and more.

PTSD Bytes

Also produced by the VA, PTSD Bytes shares “byte-sized” talks with experts and innovators about PTSD and PTSD recovery and highlights free resources available to Veterans struggling with PTSD. Hosted by clinical psychologist Colleen Becket-Davenport from the VA National Center for PTSD, this podcast offers excellent and easily digestible information for anyone who wants to know more about PTSD and how to heal.

Talking Later

For some Veterans, PTSD may go undiagnosed for many years, or it may show up differently for Veterans who are later in life. That’s where Talking Later comes in. Hosted by a former VA psychologist and produced by the Veterans Health Administration, Talking Later is specifically focused on supporting and telling the stories of older Veterans living with PTSD. Each episode includes a personal story from a Veteran’s point of view, followed by commentary about what that story can teach us about living with PTSD.

Healing Trauma Podcast

Former social worker Monique Koven takes a deep dive into a variety of topics related to healing all types of trauma on the Healing Trauma Podcast. Although this show is not specifically geared toward Veterans, many of the episodes provide valuable information about PTSD symptoms and treatments.

These podcasts offer a variety of ways for Veterans and supporters to explore the ins and outs of living with PTSD and ultimately, find ways to recover. At Northwest Battle Buddies, we know that living with PTSD can be a lifelong battle, but we also know that because of programs like ours and others, as well as the hard work of Veterans like you: there is hope.
