According to the National Center for PTSD, at least 7% of Veterans experience post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Due to symptoms of PTSD, over 8,000 Veterans commit suicide every year.

However, PTSD is treatable. With the help of nonprofits, government organizations, and generous supporters, Veterans can get the help they need to live with freedom and independence.

If you’re interested in supporting Veterans, or you’re a Veteran yourself, you’ll want to know about these organizations helping Veterans with PTSD.

7 Organizations Helping Veterans With PTSD

1. Northwest Battle Buddies

Northwest Battle Buddies (NWBB) was founded in 2012 to support Veterans by gifting them with professionally trained PTSD service dogs. NWBB's approach is based on the U.S. Army's "battle buddy" system, where soldiers are paired for mutual support. While PTSD has no cure, service dogs can significantly reduce symptoms and provide life-changing assistance to Veterans.

NWBB's service dogs undergo intensive training for over five months before being matched with a Veteran handler for an additional five weeks of training and bonding.

NWBB relies on donations to provide these trained service dogs to Veterans at no cost, aiming to help them readjust to civilian life and manage their PTSD symptoms effectively.
